Wonderful!
Knowing that we would be passing through Uvalde today at lunch time we read ChefMoz reviews to select a place. It's doubtful that we would have stopped in without the review, but we are delighted that we did. There may be better places in town, but we will never find them because we plan to head back to Amber Sky any time we can. Food was great, people were friendly. The lack of credit cards is a minor issue.

We had the catfish special (the board was erased at 12:45, so we may have gotten the last of it) and also a rueben sandwich with homemade onion rings. Both meals were spectacular.

Question: "Why Amber Sky?"

Going Back In Time
Without a doubt, the best little cafe in South Texas. The owner, Katie Mitchell, has carried on the Uvalde eating tradition that was established in the mid 1950's. The daily specials are as good as "mom's." While the chicken fried steaks are infamous, the hamburgers are best around.    [23 Feb 2007 14:23:02]

Returning to Amber Sky
We moved away a long time ago. When we moved back to Uvalde we found that Amber Sky was still in business. Not sure how I feel that they close early leaving suppers there out and not being able to pay with credit card, but the food is still excellent and the service is still friendly. It is still a good place to eat. And they tell me they still have the same cook that has been there since the 70's. A plus for those needing sugar-free pancake syrup for their's is the best one I've ever tasted.    [11 Sep 2007 14:20:29]
