Great Food Eating at Doans's Crossing Smokehouse & Grill was a wonderful experience. It's very clean, attractive and the wait staff was very friendly. Their catfish is one of their specialties. I't lightly breaded in cornmeal and fried OR grilled in olive oil and seasoned butter. They also have Chicken Livers that come with a side of cream gravey. They offer a salad called "Wright's Smoked Bacon" which is served with that delicious brand of bacon. They were out of their "smoked meats", which was wierd because their name is "Smokehouse & Grill" but ordered the Sirloin steak instead. I ordered the small steak (8 oz) and it was still thick and cooked just as I requested. It was only $7.99 for the steak, 2 side dishes and a fruit slice. The steak was served on a bed of meaty, cooked, diced bacon. Delicious! [13 Jun 2004 12:43:49]

WOW Let me tell you something. I just ate at Doan's Crossing on my way up to Denver on Highway 287 in Vernon, Texas and let me tell you. It was one of the best meals I have ever had. Come to find out they originally served Smoked meats which was a favorite the owner Dan Massaro but the small town was not too into it so he stuck with Steak, chicken and Fish and is he ever good at putting out a full great plate of food. Before I ate the main course I tried a starter that was a stuffed fried tomato that was filled with Cheese and other things. It was incrediable. I forget the name but it was out of this world and something I have never seen before. It would be in Restaurant news if it was a concept like Mac GRill coming up with it. I had the fried Shrimp and Steak platter. These shrimp were huge! and plump! I have eaten in fine restaurants and nothing compares! I mean it. The steak was the best part! I had it medium and it came out juicy and on top of a bed of smoked bacon. I have never had it like that before but I will be adding it to my favorite steak dishes of all time. You must try this out. I will be catching them when I drive back down! All I can say WOW. [02 Nov 2005 17:53:35]
