Decent food good price This restaurant is a clean cozy little place located in the heart of old Downtown Wylie. When it gets busy, the ownership, however, might ask you to leave if you aren't eating. Unfortunately they don't understand that running the customer off isn't a really good idea. I can't knock the food or the atmosphere though, in all fairness. [30 Sep 2003 18:47:44]

Consistently good Food, service and cleanliness were all good. I expect good or I don't tip or advertise for a place that isn't. Been there 4 times and tried 4 different meals that tested the kitchens' ability and consistency. Very good stuff there. Special attention to food quality pleased me. Things I did not like: the wait staff drops spoons into coffee cups--clang. They load up maybe 12 to 24 at a time. [16 Feb 2004 08:44:26]

best breakfast ever My husband, child and I just moved to Wylie about a year ago but were driving to Ballard Street Cafe for breakfast long before. They have the best breakfast I have ever eaten this side of a truckstop at 3am! My favorite is the chicken fried steak and fried eggs for 6.99 which comes with hashbrowns and pancakes. Where else can you get this much food for the price? The food is always consistent and the people are extremely friendly. Now, be prepared; you might have to wait up to thirty minutes for a table (this place is hopping) but it will be well worth the wait. [28 Dec 2006 12:00:27]

Best food and atmosphere We take all our out of town visitors to Ballard St. Cafe, and everyone has loved the food and the small town friendliness of people that work there. We love their breakfast eating it all times of the day, but most of our visitors love the chicken fried steak and the homemade pies. Everyone we take there cleans their plates. Not many places where you can get real home cooking anymore, but Ballard St. is one of them. [31 Dec 2006 17:24:24]

Beware Food average. Atmosphere rustic.Service leaves a lot to be desired. I have been asked to leave once after my party and myself had finished eating, once before I had finished my meal, and a third time as I walked in waiting to see if we could be seated was asked to step outside (not "It will be a minute before seating," just "Get outside."). I will not allow my family to return and strongly advise my business associates and friends not to frequent. Too bad; I am a big tipper. [16 Oct 2007 22:13:36]

There's a reason out-of-the-way restaurants thrive...people tell people about great food and service at a reasonable price. That's why you might have to wait for a table. (I never have). Highly recommend breakfast (any) and chicken fried steak. Best in the Metroplex. [21 Dec 2007 20:40:35]
