La Caille is an absolute wonder La Caille is an absolute wonder! As you enter the gates you are flooded with the image of gorgeous lakes, graceful swans, elegant peacocks and breathtaking gardens. From the moment you walk in the doors you feel as though you've stepped into a French chateau straight out of Aix-en-Provence. The staff is dressed up with style reminiscent to the late eighteenth century. You are welcomed in with open arms, as the personnel seem delighted to have you there. You definitely feel you are important. We were lucky enough to be seated next to a glass window overlooking the grounds; it was absolutely out of this world. The food was wonderful. Complimentary sourdough bread is given to you as you arrive to your table. You could tell it just came out of the oven, as it was soft and warm. For the meal, you start off with your choice of hors-d` oeuvres. I enjoyed the Pate d’ Jour and my boyfriend the Carpaccio; both of which were excellently prepared and served beautifully. Next were the salads, I strongly recommend the Wilted Spinach. It was served to us warm, topped with egg, bacon, mushroom and vinaigrette that were to die for.
Finally we were ready for the entrée. I ordered the Caneton de la Saison, pan roasted duck, and it was served in a sweet raspberry sauce and banana squash with a few raspberries decorating the corners. Not only was I impressed with, again, the beautiful serving and time that had obviously been placed in this dish but the taste was heavenly. I can’t even begin to tell you how wonderful I found my meal. Strongly a recommendation for all duck lovers, or if you have never tried duck, this would be a perfect time. Somehow I convinced my boyfriend, who is extremely picky, to try a bite and he was fishing for more all evening!
My boyfriend ordered the Entrecote Steak and requested to have a side of mashed potatoes. They gladly received his request with no trouble at all. He loved his meal! He is extremely picky so I was ecstatic to see him enjoy it so much. He ordered it medium-rare and it was cooked to perfection. You could tell that the potatoes were hand made and he refused to share. I would recommend this to anyone weary of the French cuisine as a safe choice for a fabulous dinner.
The final event for the night was dessert. We thought we were completely full but as soon as you see the menu, something happens and you feel the need to make room for more! My boyfriend ordered the Sorbet du Vin, it is true to the taste of champagne, Seyval Blanc and Cabernet just as listed in the menu. He enjoyed it. I received the Banana Foster which had an amazing presentation. To start, because we were celebrating an anniversary, they put a small sparkler firework in the glass situated between the ice cream. It went off with a bang and was not only amazing to watch but wonderful to know the staff put so much care and consideration into our table. Next, our server set a flame to the glass resulting in engulfing orange-blue flames on the plate. The banana & caramel mix was then poured into the glass as the flamed cooled. The presentation was stunning, even if you are not a fan of banana foster, I would say the presentation alone was worth the order.
As we finished with the check the valet pulled our car to the front and our night ended with perfection.
In summary, La Caille is simply something you have to see for yourself. The staff is amazing and so glad to have you. From the moment we walked in the door to the second we walked out, we knew that we were wanted there.
If you are looking for a romantic getaway from the world, this is the place.
If you are looking to celebrate an anniversary, a birthday, or any other occasion that is important to you, this is the place.
If you are eager to create a lifelong memorable evening, this is the place.
Don’t just take my word for it. Try it for yourself. I know that you will walk away with an amazing memory, experience, and a longing for the next time you can make it back. I know I did! [27 May 2008 18:16:49]
