Fabulous casual dining My family frequented this restaurant until we moved out of the area a couple months ago. We were introduced to it by word of mouth by a close friend.
We tried a variety of items over time. The menu features seasonal specials in addition to the regular fare. Portions are always generous, flavor is normally full and rich. Food arrives hot and fresh. I do not believe that there was any disappointing meal we've ever received.
Be warned that the hot wings may be too spicy if you're sensitive despite the fact that they've toned those down the spice. (The initial version of the hot wings made my jalapeƱo-scarfing wife flush and sweat.)
The $11 appetizer platter is massive, and makes a great substitute for a couple not wanting full-blown meals. Otherwise, share it with your friends.
The kids' menu contains a variety of typical kids' fare, from macaroni and cheese to chicken strips. The kids have always enjoyed the food, with the chicken strips being their regular choice. The portions, even for kids, are generous. We always expect to bring at least half home.
Service is great. Even during busy periods, the employees are courteous and as prompt as can be expected during a Friday-night crush. I can't think of a time anybody was less than pleasant for even a moment.
They are able to accommodate larger parties, of perhaps 20-30, but this will require waiting for neighboring tables to become available so they can be pushed together.
The place is very clean, nothing in disrepair. The walls are covered with a dense layer of memorabilia style of objects. Each section of the restaurant has a different theme, with the specific locale included. This Applebee's features the local high school band, police force, train depot, and Air Force base next to famous actors and entertainers.
This restaurant is about as good as one can get for a casual family restaurant. One should never hesitate to bring friends and family here unless one wants something specifically kid-oriented or a formal setting.
I do not believe that they take reservations, and become extremely busy during peak hours, so I'd recommend planning around those times. They're well-organized, so even during the busiest times we've waited perhaps 30 minutes.
We do not drink, so cannot comment other than to say they do have a state liquor license. There is no smoking per state law. [17 Dec 2006 03:59:28]
