Best cakes on the planet... I am NOT a cake fan... not the kind that likes icing and 'cake bread' and mushy strawberry filling...
You've never seen 'cake' like these... they are bavarian creams and light mousses with fresh fruit in a VERY WIDE selection of flavors.
On the deli side, the selections are sold by weight and are inventive, fresh made and flavorful... including things like 'real' char-grilled veggies and marinated sliced sirloin. [09 Jul 2003 16:12:45]

Alexandria Pastry Shop and Cafe Catering Service Alexandria Pastry catered our 25th Wedding Anniversary in January 2004, with our Unitarian minister performing a Renewal of Commitment Ceremony. We had 30 guests, and were very persnickity. We insisted on a lacto-ovo vegetarian, alcohol-free reception, with one exception for a champagne toast. Alexandria Pastry provided an entire meal of finger foods, to keep washing flatware out of the picture. They served a round of brie covered in a chutney, wrapped in phyllo, and baked; spanikopita; vegetable-and-nut wraps with whole wheat tortillas; and four more dishes, including two appetizers and a moutain of chocolate truffles for dessert, with sparkling water, hot mulled cider, and fruit juice. Not one guest realized this was a vegetarian meal! The piece de resistance was the "wedding cake" we never had 25 years ago: Passion Fruit Bavarian with Fresh Apricots and a Blackcurrant Glace. The three servers took care of everything: the timing of the dishes; setting up with attractive serving platters; getting the champagne to everybody at the same time; keeping dishes filled; and they took care of EVERY aspect, down to the tiniest, of cleaning up and removing rubbish. All extremely professional. And the consultant we worked with understood all of our rather peculiar needs, and dutifully kept within the budget we assigned to them. Everything was simply PERFECT. Not so much I keep going back though for the asparagus and hearts of palm salad, which is always good. I have not been happy with the service there for awhile. I think the ambiance has also gone downhill since last year (they used to have black and white photo art by local artists, now it's cheesy food pictures) [23 Feb 2007 12:36:12]
