A French take on old-fashioned comfort food. - AOL City Guide, Jon Bowen; Foodies-in-the-know know where to go for French fare in Old Town Alexandria -- they make a beeline to La Bergerie for award-winning French cuisine and Basque specialties. - suggest change
Editor's Pick - Washington Post, Eve Zibart, 1 November 2002; Expect consistently expert service and a serviceable menu, one rooted in the French traditions. - suggest change
100 Very Best - Washingtonian Magazine, David Dorsen, 0 January 2004; This restaurant defies logic. How can it be so good when it goes through four chefs and two owners in three years? - suggest change

Wonderful French Cuisine Truly enjoyable. Having visited this establishment several times I can honestly say that I have not had a bad meal yet. The waitstaff is very attentive, as well as the maitre d'. There was no rushing and the food was prepared well. [17 Apr 2003 17:58:10]

Magnifique! We had a very enjoyable dining experience for our first time at La Bergerie, delighted with the Special Easter menu (great Soufflés!), a professional-and-friendly service (lovely French accent!). We loved it! Truly recommend it! A special note for the wine list: impressive choice at very affordable prices (compare to most equivalent places in the DC area!). [14 Apr 2004 09:31:41]

Fabulous Dining My husband and I went to La Bergerie for our 1 month wedding anniversary. The food was simple, delicious and fantastic! The service was impeccable. It's not a quaint, small bistro that you would expect from a French restaurant, but the dining experience was fabulous. We will return to this place for sure! [24 May 2004 17:35:27]

Superb I dined at La Bergerie for prom last year. With most high end restaurants, teenagers would have been served reluctantly in a condescending manner, but that wasn't the case with La Bergerie. We were served personally by the charming owner himself, Laurent Janowsky, he was very helpful and personable. The atmosphere was elegant and romantic: dim lights, luxurious booths, french country decor. The food was exquisite, the foie gras chaud was succulent and the duck was delicious. No complaints about the La Bergerie experience, it was absolutely wonderful. If you're looking for a romantic place to take your loved one for a special event, La Bergerie is a sure thing to please.
