Lively Place for Great Seafood & Beers
It's really a bar that happens to have great food and beer, rather than a restaurant, per se. They have a wide selection of fine import beers on-tap with frequent additions. Great seafood, esp: fried dinners(not greasy); raw bar (always very fresh); catch of the day; griled mahi & tuna sandwiches. Generous portions. Good rock & roll. Downside is that most of the place is a smoking section, and the non-smoking area is adjacent to the front door and in the winter you get blown away and/or frozen out everytime someone comes in or out, which is about every two minutes. The atmosphere is loud and lively, but very friendly. Parking can be tight on weekend nights. p.s. Be prepared for noise and a crowd especially on Thursdays nights, 1/2 price shrimp night! The Oysters Rockefeller is the best Ive ever eaten, The large shrimp are so fresh they literslly pop in your mouth. Huge selection of seafood all accompanied by some great hushpuppies. RICHMOND LOVES IT....
We love the food at Harpoon Larry's so much that we drive 1 1/2 hours each way about once a month. Friday/Saturday happy hours are terrific. There's no atmosphere, we could do without the smoke and it's really just a bar, but we have used it as our benchmark for seafood and for over 22 years, we haven't found any better.    [09 May 2007 11:06:08]
