Wonderful bar and dining room J. Gilbert's offers a consistently pleasing, well rounded dining out experience, from excellent food to coureous, unobtrussive service. [24 Dec 2002 11:06:22]

Excellent Everything! This restaurant is truly surprising. From the exterior you would not realize what a wonderful restaurant lies inside. I have been here on various occasions, the latest being New Year's Eve. The food is always well-prepared and the service exemplary. They also have some of the best coffee around. Not that great, really I always find this place a little disappointing. Seems like it should be great - nice decor, menu and wine list. But the food isn't that great. [31 Jul 2003 17:28:59]

It is that great! I just read the reveiws and laughed at "the dude's" Seems he keeps going back. I think the atmosphere is great. The menu is diverse just enough, but no so much that it all tastes preprepared. Friendly service, tasty and it's just my favorite. [09 Feb 2004 13:37:47]

It Scores an 'A!' I've been to J. Gilberts 40 or 50 times since its opening in McLean. It is head and shoulders above the trendy, expensive Sam & Harry's or Mortons steakhouses. It offers a casual but still very nice dining atmosphere - coat and tie or casual seem to fit either way! I love the dark, private feeling and the Jazzy music is all to my liking. But, best of all, the food!!! It's truly an A. Why would someone go to the other steak houses in metro Washington, I really don't know. But if the general public stays away that's great with me. We live 4 minutes away and all in McLean feel like it's our own special place! So, the rest of Washington, please s [07 May 2004 18:27:21]

Our Favorite My wife and I love this place. The bar is noisy, cozy and active during Happy Hour - it's sexy, smoky and private afterward.
My wife loves their Cosmopolitan Martini - she has never had one as tasty as Gilbert's makes them.
The food is excellent - compare it to Morton's minus the tableside butcher-shop show. While everything on the menu is great it's important to remember, It's A STEAK HOUSE.
Deserts are delicious and calorie-free (until you get home - they will be waiting at your doorstep)
The environs are understated, a bit masculine, comfortable and [08 Nov 2004 13:27:08]

The dude is wrong I have been here many, upon thousands of millions minus millions of thousands of times and it never disappoints. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the carpaccio salad dish, probably because it's hard to spell. Once you get past the embarassment of having to pronounce it when ordering, you realize how good it is. And I have yet receive some sort of raw meat poisoning from it. Plus their new Sunday brunch has the kick-butt 'chocolate fountain' only previously dreamt of by Willy Wonka and my sister every month. I highly recommend J. Gilbert's, whoever he is, and the food that he m [19 Nov 2004 17:11:46]

Maybe a bad night This was my second time here and decided to bring my family. Service was really slow in the beginning and they forgot to bring one of our meals. After waiting another 10min for our meal I was expecting some sort of credit or at least a manger to come and apologize, but got nothing of the sort. Also heard staff at the kitchen talking rudely about some customers. This place seemed like it was being ran by a bunch of high school'ers. Maybe it was just a bad night though, or that is probably the difference between J. Gilbert's and other resturants in the [03 Dec 2004 17:41:01]
