BAKER'S CRUST
Last Sunday my husband and I took our
3 grandchildren, son and his wife here
for breakfast. We realize this was during
the aftermath of Isabel and were prepared to wait an hour or more, however, I was shocked to learn that we
would have to pay for bottled water and
75 cents for a biscuit because they were
out of bread. When I asked to see the
manager to tell him of my displeasure, he was TOO BUSY!!!! Is this the way
Baker's Crust pays back the community
in times of disaster. I would think they would be more than willing to give
out bottled water to their loyal customers. I will NEVER eat here again!
P.S. My husband's pancakes came after
the rest of us had finished eating.

NOT LIKE IT USED TO BE!!!
MY WIFE AND I WENT TO BAKER'S CRUST IN CARYTOWN THIS PAST WEDNESDAY (APRIL 14) FOR A LIGHT DINNER.WE GOT THERE AROUND 5 PM.ONLY TWO TABLES HAD PATRONS.

UPON ENTRY, THERE WAS NO HOSTESS PRESENT AND WE HAD TO STAND WAITING FOR SEVERAL MINUTES UNTIL FINALLY A WAITER CAME OVER AND LED US TO A TABLE.LATER TWO HOSTESSES APPEARED AND FUNCTIONED WELL FOR LATER PATRONS.

MY WIFE ORDERED CHICKEN SALAD ON A CROISSANT; SHE WAS TOLD THAT THERE WOULD BE AN EXTRA CHARGE FOR THE CROISSANT SINCE IT HAD TO BE GOTTEN FROM THE BAKERY (?) SOME TWENTY FEET FROM OUR TABLE.(TOO FAR TO WALK AND TOO MUCH TROUBLE FOR CUSTOMER'S DESIRE?) SHE SETTLED FOR REGULAR BREAD.

I ORDERED THE CRAB CORN CHOWDER WHICH USUALLY IS VERY GOOD, BUT IT CAME WITH NO ATTENDANT SLICE OF BREAD; I SEEM TO REMEMBER THERE BEING SUCH LAST TIME WE WERE THERE.I MANAGED TO USE THE BREAD FROM MY SANDWICH. ALONG WITH THE CHOWDER, I ORDERED THE TUSCAN TENDERLOIN SANDWICH SIMPLY BECAUSE I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE SPENDING $13 TO $15 FOR SOMETHING ELSE. IT CAME AS A SANDWICH WITH VERY LITTLE TASTE AND A SERVING OF EQUALLY BLAND PASTA SALAD.

WE WERE NOT TOLD OF THE SPECIALS FOR THE DAY AND THE BLACKBOARD LISTING SUCH IS IN A CORNER OF THE ROOM WHICH IS DARK AND MAKES THE BOARD DIFFICULT TO SEE. LATER PATRONS FOR A VERBAL LISTING OF THE SPECIALS.I MUST SAY THAT OUR WAITER WAS VERY ATTENTIVE AND OBLIGING TO OUR REQUESTS FOR MORE ICE, TEA, ETC.

THE WAIT STAFF WERE DRESSED IN ALL BLACK ATTIRE WHICH MADE ME FEEL THAT I WAS IN A GOTH CONVENTION. TWO EVEN HAD ACCOMPANYING TATTOOS, ONE WITH A WHOLE ARM (OR TWO) OF SUCH. A LITTLE MORE COLOR OR AT LEAST WHITE APRONS MIGHT BE MORE APPEALING, AS WOULD MORE ILLUMINATION IN THE ROOM.

OUR BILL CAME TO $30.47 NOT INCLUDING TIP.I FEEL THAT SOME OF THE PRICES ARE A LITTLE HIGH FOR THE QUALITY. ALL IN ALL, A LESS THAN PLEASING EVENING. I WENT THERE MAINLY BECAUSE I HAD TO GO TO ELWOOD THOMPSON'S AFTERWARD AND THEY ARE CLOSE TO EACH OTHER. I FEEL THAT "BAKER'S CRUST" HAS LOST SOME OF ITS GLITTER THAT WE SAW WHEN WE MOVED TO RICHMOND SEVERAL YEARS AGO. I MUCH PREFERRED THE OLD "NEW YORK DELI" WHICH IS NOW CLOSED, MUCH TO CARYTOWN'S LOSS.

I THINK IT WILL BE SOME TIME BEFORE I AGAIN GO TO BAKER'S CRUST!! MY MONEY CAN BE SPENT OTHER PLACES TO BETTER ADVANTAGE.
