New York Flavor in Roanoke First, the important thing: The New Yorker is a cash-only establishment. They have a very well-stocked Deli, where you can buy by the pound. But the real feature is the sandwiches, which are much bigger than one usually expects. The Pastrami on Rye is big enough to feed two, unless you're exceptionally hungry. The Onion Wheel is a very tasty combination of meats, and comes in as one of the smaller sandwiches that I've had there. The restaurant itself isn't anything special, and the service isn't the fastest, but the food is definitely worth i [30 Dec 1999 09:45:59]

Best Subs anywhere!! I grew up in Roanoke and now live in Atlanta, GA. Whenever I go home I make sure I make it to the New Yorker. The only sandwich I have ever ordered is the submarine with slaw and peppers. It is fantastic. And the prices are great. Can't go anywhere else and pay that for a whole sub (it's always enough to split or have the next day). [06 Dec 2001 16:29:36]

Missing the New Yorker I grew up in Roanoke and whenever I visit the New Yorker is a must visit restaurant. I travel quite a bit and have lived in large metropolitan areas since leaving Roanoke, and I still cannot find anything like their subs anywhere else. [31 May 2002 13:31:13]

SHERRIE, NEW TO ROANOKE
Possible Confusion There's another place nearby The New Yorker Deli and Restaraunt called "The New York Deli". Note the lack of the -er on York. New York Deli is horrible. New Yorker Deli is excellent.
I've been all over the country and New Yorker is quite simply the best sandwich shop I have ever been to. EXTREMELY good prices too. We're talking 18 inch subs, 4+ inches thick packed with meats, cheeses and vegetables. One full sub is enough to feed two adults on just over $5. The service however is often rude and inattentive. The food and prices more than makes up for it.
The New Yorker has been in operation and loved by Roanokers for around 40 years now.
Oh, and bring cash. They don't take credit card or personal checks. Checks can bounce and credit cards cost a restaraunt money to process. That's how they keep their prices so low. [06 Feb 2008 17:43:04]

The best subs; what more can I say! I have ate at sub places all over the east coast and I can't find a place that can even come close to the New Yorker in Roanoke, Virginia. My uncle took me there and now I am hooked for life; RIP Tommy love you. [19 Jun 2008 10:35:45]
