Best Sushi in NVA
Can't believe no one has reviewed this place. Cozy, clean, well designed interior is surpassed by consistently the best sushi in the area. Been there for dinner and lunch, always consistent.
Wait staff a bit slow at times is only down side. Prices fair, good value    [30 Jan 2004 09:47:41]

This San Franciscan is impressed...
Being from San Fran, my expectations were pretty low when I ate here while in DC for vacation. Who knew that the best roll i've ever had in my life would be in VA? the "fu fu roll"- not sure if it was on menu since the owner (Bob?) ordered it for me- is heaven on earth. Served hot with a salmon skin and some amazing cream sauce, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Also good, was the Bombay roll- spicy! Great value and quality- I'm going back the next time I'm in Virginia.    [30 Sep 2004 20:38:58]

Really very good
This is probably the best sushi I have ever eaten and the place itself is comforting and pleasant. My wife and I are both from the South and we don't know much about sushi. However, my wife became a sushi addict after only a few experiences. I have been working in the DC-NorthernVirginia area and brought my wife up to visit. Not knowing the streets very well, we went looking for a place to eat. We got lost and just before we gave up hope, my wife saw this little place called "Yama" and we decided to chance it. Now I'm no expert, but I know what I like and I know the difference between good and bad. This place is GOOD! They serve an attractive plate and the value for the money is well worth noting. The food tastes great and during the time my wife was here she wore the place out. On busy nights, they have three sushi chefs working and you can watch them as they do their thing. Nice guys and you can talk to them. The waitresses are good folks, too, and they were especially kind to my three-year-old son who ate with us. The place is relatively new so a lot of local folks don't know about it. It is in one of those little strip-malls on the side of the road that line the street in the Vienna and Tysons Corner area and it may take some effort to find it -- no big sign or anything like that -- but I think you'll find it was worth the effor    [07 Nov 2005 12:20:45]

The best sushi ever
The only other time I've had sushi of this caliber was when I flew to Hawaii. I have been dining at Yama for several years, and it is always outstanding! I am incredibly picky; I only dine at one other sushi place in all of Metro DC...give it a try, soon!!! The owner is terrific, and the staff are great! The ambience is nice---never loud.    [06 Apr 2006 15:02:40]

My fiancee and I go there once a week
The sushi is the best I've had in Northern VA. Also, it's comparable to sushi in California or Seattle and the service as mentioned earlier can be a little slow but the ambiance and a bamboo of saki will fix that right away. There is not one week that passes (unless we are out of town) that we don't go to eat there. The place is nice and the personnel friendly.    [20 Jul 2006 16:45:30]

Best Restaurant in the DC Area
I cannot speak highly enough about this restaurant. I'm from New York, went to college in Los Angeles and grad school in the Midwest, and moved to Northern VA in 2001. I've had some great sushi and some awful sushi, and Yama is without a doubt the best sushi I have ever had. By "best," I mean the freshest and most delectable fish, cut in generous proportions, at very reasonable prices (see below), with friendly, attentive, and helpful staff both behind the sushi bar and waiting tables. On my second visit, Ken (the head sushi chef and probably one of the owners) remembered my name and my wife's name. The sushi or sashimi lunch bento box is about $9 and contains a ridiculously large amount of food. I have never been anything less than perfectly satisfied when eating here, and I am one of the pickiest restaurant customers I know. If they were able to expand the space, a tatami (rice mat) room would be a nice added touch (which is why they get less than a perfect score in "ambiance").    [03 Aug 2006 23:46:26]

Unbelievably fair prices for quality and service
June 18, 2007

I love going to Yama because it is very
affordable, especially the delightful lunch box selections (not much more expensive than eating at McDonalds_) but the quality of the food is outstanding and is the service. All customers are waited on like they were VIPs. The restaurant has a friendly, upbeat ambiance and decor.
Perfect for a family outting. Health fanatics will love the sushi bar. Everything always taste fresh and clean.    [18 Jun 2007 16:27:45]
