Best Mexican in Fauquier County When you want Mexican in Warrenton, there is no question - you want El Agave. In fact, its probably the best Mexican in Northern Virginia (and I've tried quite a few places). Location
Agave is tucked away in the strip mall area where Routes 17 and 29 business intersect, right between Blockbuster Video and Peebles. There's always ample parking, but if you're going during the peak dinner hours, you may occasionally have to wait 10-15 minutes for a table. Lunch time is busy as well, but generally less crowded.
Menu
The menu at Agave is immense. They offer all the usual Mexican-fare with up to a dozen or more variations on burritos, enchilladas, fajitas, tacos, etc. Some of our favorites are the Burrito Delgollado (ask for steak, the standard menu item comes with chicken only) and the Vegetarian Platter #1 (1 bean tostada, 1 cheese enchillada, and 1 bean burrito). Top it with a side-order of Mexican rice and chase it all with a large order of sopapillas, and you're about as close to Tijuana as you're going to get in Fauquier County.
Don't bother ordering an appetizer - they offer complimentary chips and salsa which you won't want to miss. The salsa tastes fresh and spicy. Mmmm... salsa.
One final big thumbs up for Agave's use of queso blanco (white cheese), instead of the usual processed knock-offs you find at other Mexican restaurants in NoVA. This is the good stuff, people - don't skimp on it. Be sure to ask for an extra side-bowl of queso blanco to drizzle over your burrito or taco.
Prices are reasonable. Dinner for two, including 2 non-alcoholic drinks and 2 entrees, might run anywhere between $15-20.
Service
No complaints here. Occassionally you'll be left standing at the entrance a bit longer than you should, but that's the only possible gripe I could have with Agave's service. Waiters/Waitresses are fast and courteous, always get our orders right, and are quick with beverage refills and checks on request.
Oh, and keep an eye out in the local Warrenton/Fauquier newspapers and postal circulars... every now and again you'll find a "1/2 price dinner entree" coupon for Agave. We stock up on 'em ourselves, since we eat there at least once a week. Also they've got Tuesday lunch specials starting at $3.75 [22 Feb 2005 09:36:12]
