Great Looking, but the Food Was Awful
I was looking forward to breakfast at the Farmers Diner. It is a beautifully restored dining car, with counter and table seating, and an overall vintage feel. The food, however, is a different story. I had The Vermonter, a very basic breakfast - scrambled eggs, toast, sausage, potatoes - and honestly, the only good part of the meal was the jam. The eggs were as bland as I can ever recall having, the sausage seemed undercooked, the potatoes were overdone, and even the toast was bad (stale). This is not a difficult meal to make, and it was really surprising to have such basic foods be so poorly prepared. The service was also lackluster; after waiting quite a while for our check, we spoke to someone else who worked there and was just standing around. He told us we would have to wait for our server, and that he could not (would not) help us. Avoid this place.    [17 Jun 2007 19:14:54]
