WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT!!!
We have been watching the commercials for the new resort and decided to take the 2 hour trip down to see what all the hoopla was. The resort and water park is very cool!! We decided to try their Grand Buffet while we were there.

It is laid out beautifully and the decorations are very appropriate for the resort. We were seated right away and our drinks came right out.

We traveled the length of the buffet to see what they had and it looked like we were in for a gourmet tasting treat. There was an Asian section with several entrees, Ahi tuna, prime rib with gorganzola, lots of different pasta dishes, potatoes, veggies and of course the kids section with burgers, pizza, fish sticks, etc. There was also a cold seafood bar that had dungeness crab legs, oysters on the half shell and peel and eat shrimp. They definitely started out with the "good stuff" when planning the menu.

I took a little spoonful of most of the items as a sampler to see what I really wanted to eat. The ahi tuna was cooked until it was as hard as wood. The prime rib with gorganzola was tasteless, swimming in oil and cooked to the consistency of leather. It had asparagus in the pan with it and they were so overcooked that there was nothing much left of them but strings in oil. Nothing on the Asian section was even recognizable as food ... no taste and severely overcooked. The only thing that wasn't ruined was the cold bar where they didn't cook the stuff. My wife tried the macaroni and cheese off the burger section and it was the consistency of custard (noodles severely overcooked) with no taste. Even the kids fish sticks and chicken strips were cooked to the point of being dried out.

We waited about a half an hour thinking that if they change out the trays, then the fresh food would be better. WRONG!! It was exactly the same overcooked tasteless junk.

There was a very good looking dessert bar with lots of cakes and pastries as well as one server making banana splits (but the line was horrendous for the splits). We tried a sampler of the cakes and pastries and found that the same cooks were in the bakery. Dry, tasteless cake with sugary greasy frosting. Tasteless cookies and sugary, leathery fruit pie.

When the busboy came to clear a couple of plates, we had him take all the food that we had on the table explaining that it was inedible.

Within a minute the manager came over and asked what the problem was and we explained the problem with every dish that we tried. She listened intently and nodded agreeingly and finally said that she had heard that from several others and that our meal was free.

We left a little upset at having made the long drive for nothing but encouraged by the waiving of the bill.

We had thought that this was probably just a fluke night until we talked with a co-worker that tried it last week and said that it was "absolutely awful and not worth the $18 that they are charging!!" Our friends didn't get their meal "comp-ed" so we decided to go ahead and submit this to warn others.

While it is a fun atmosphere staffed with great service people, the bad food destroyed the evening for us.    [27 Apr 2008 19:40:24]
