Good Fish, Chips, and Conversation On a slow Monday evening in Leavenworth I wandered the streets looking for something to wet my appetite. German? Not tonight. Italian or Mexican? Nada. A freshly grilled mushroom burger? No... So I stopped into Ducks and Drakes. Ducks and Drakes is a casual restaurant / bar with sports on a couple of screens, and other programing on another. A casual atmosphere with pool tables interspersed with dining patrons. "What should I have tonight for dinner?" I asked. "The Fish and Chips are great!" said Teresa, who was tending the bar. "OK, lets try that, with a Leavenworth Oktoberfest Beer" While waiting for dinner I read the menu. Did you know that "Ducks and Drakes" is a game of skipping stones across the surface of the water?" Neither did I but hey, not a bad name... Teresa brings out my basket of fish and chips. (I've still managed to keep half my beer.) Now, I have to admit that the most unusual and enticing taste was the Tarter Sauce... (a hint of dill, some pickle, what else? I'm not sure but I'll go back to try more)and the whole basket was great. Fries, battered fish, and smooth beer were all fresh and tasty, and perhaps the best fish and chips I've had in Leavenworth. If you decide to visit Leavenworth on a slow Monday night or during the day during the fall, stop by for a drink and say "hi" to Teresa at Ducks and Drakes. [05 Oct 2004 02:32:14]

Yummy in my tummy I love this restaurant! Whether you are local or from out of town I've noticed the staff always greets you with a smile...and best of all a nice cold beer!
If you are looking for a spot to mingle with the town folk paired with your choice of cocktail or "good" beer this is where it's at! The night-time bartender Jesus is a riot! This guy is ALWAYS happy!
I am I huge fan of consistency as far as helpful people and food go and I have never, never, never had bad food and the staff is a fun loving group.
The last time I was there one of the staff offered me some of their new chili. It was GREAT! He said it will soon be on the menu all the time in addition to their other homemade soup of the day. Speaking of; the cooks in that kitchen really make up a great clam chowder.
As far as entertainment goes, you can choose from playing a game of pool, air hockey, a Simpsons video game, foose ball or ask Seth about his vast knowledge of trivia from the trivial pursuit cards that sit on the bar ... all for FREE might I add!
One of the really neat things I like that never gets old is the chalkboard that runs the entire length of the bar. Whoever does the artwork does a great job. You can sit and have a bite to eat as well as find out what happened in "Today's History" and read famous birthdays. It's updated each day so you'll always see something new.
Overall...a great and fun restaurant time and time again. [04 Feb 2007 14:54:35]

Whatever! Food and drinks were fine. Atmosphere was kind of foppish and service was slow. I think we may have warped into a 1980's Seattle may be gay bar. [13 Jul 2007 16:32:59]

Fantastic! Great variety of brews on tap, full bar, free pool and other games. Great staff! It is a very comfortable environment. If you're wanting to get away and don't want to be German-ed to death - this place is great!

Good Place for a Beer and a really Smart & Nice bar tender Stopped by with the Wife after trolling through town ... just wanted a beer and to spend some time with the Bride. Good Beer and setting the day barkeep (didn't get her name but we called her Bob) She didn't fight back but answered a bunch of tourist questions (mine). She was on spot with the Steak dinner recommendation. [22 Feb 2008 09:50:07]

Quackin' over Ducks and Drakes! During a brief visit in off-season Leavenworth, my husband and I stopped off at Ducks and Drakes on Front street. As I walked through the door, I was immediately impressed with the clean, friendly atmosphere, and picked a sunshiny corner where we could lounge. Around us was the hilarious wall of fame, cracking us up until the food arrived. My husband craved the "Best Rueben in town." While we admit we didn't have an array of Ruebens to compare side-by-side, we have eaten a fair amount of corned beef in our lives. His sandwich, layered with swiss, sauer kraut, and home-made house-radish sauce, rolled smoothly across the tongue. He didn't make it through the sandwich and fries before hitting bottom. Which is seriously saying something for this big guy. And the beer that accompanied it? Anything that says "Leavenworth Brewery" is worth serious consideration. I had the (Fish Whistle?) sandwich. It was beer-battered halibut in a nice roll with lettuce, tomato, and homemade tartar sauce. Yum! The outside of the fish, which I imagine is as good as the fish and chips dish they serve, had an excellent beer-battered crust. All I'll say is that if we go back tonight, I'm ordering the fish again. That dish may never get old. [10 Mar 2008 19:30:46]

Locals hangout, good food! We came in here after a choral festival my husband was a part of. After an initial oops of having no server assigned to our table (20 minutes of no one), the rest of the night went flawlessly.
It is definitely a local hangout late at night, with pool tables, lots of beer, and TVs. The atmosphere was perfect for a bar though...our condiments were brought out in a Coors light 6-pack holder, with malt vinegar, 2 kinds of mustard, and ketchup. :-)
My fish and chips were absolutely perfect. Crunchy breading with firm, good cut of halibut. Great size portions. [13 Apr 2008 20:29:19]

Good Food — Slow Service My wife and I went there this afternoon and while there were a lot of customers, the restaurant was adequately staffed. It took a while for the waitress to bring us a menu and we shared a pitcher of good amber ale. It took a while before we could then order our meal. I ordered a bratwurst and sauerkraut dish with potato salad. It took nearly a half hour to arrive. We asked the waitress and she merely replied that the kitchen was slow; no apologies or regrets for the long wait. We had to get her attention in regard to the check. This is one of the very few times that I did not bother to leave a tip. The slowness was a major factor; also the fact that the staff's attitude was that of indifference. [17 Aug 2008 01:45:48]
