great family restaurant
Located just off the lobby of the Best Western Icicle Inn, this is a great place to bring the kids. The restaurant has a model train that goes around the dining room. Best children's menu in town here. Full service restaurant with signature dishes for grown up tastes as well. Try the house Riesling.    [11 Nov 2003 21:15:31]

Great steaks and multi-choice restaruant
As an employee of the Icicle Inn I’ve had many opportunities to eat at the restaurants in Leavenworth over the past four years. I must admit that I’ve always found them to serve good hot food with large portions at a reasonable price in a town that is a tourist destination. J. J. Hills Restaurant is located in the Icicle Inn and I’ve enjoyed many meals both alone and with personal guests or clients here over the years.

I really enjoy the steaks at J. J. Hills Restaurant. I’ve had the New York Gentleman which is a strip loin pan seared and whiskey flamed with a sauce of garlic, green peppercorns, and cream; the Blackened Delmonico rib eye blackened and topped with bleu cheese; the Beer Sirloin; and the Friday night special Prime Rib. All of them come with vegetables and a sourdough loaf, a baked potato or rice pilaf, and either soup or salad. I choose the French Onion soup that has really good flavor. I also enjoy the Hühner Chicken breast that is pounded, breaded and fried then topped with lemon and capers. The portions are great and with the variety on the plate I’ve never fully cleared my plate at J. J. Hills.

The service staff is helpful and considerate. I always ask for no ice in my water at restaurants and this is one of the few where they actually will serve it to me that way. The coffee is blended and roasted for the restaurant and has nice flavor although I prefer a darker French roast. There is a nice wine selection with a selection of local wines and Washington wines. This is one restaurant where the house label wine is actually a good value with fairly low price and good taste. It’s been fun seeing the surprise on people’s faces as they enjoy their first sips of wine. The restaurant is themed after the Great Northern Railroad and has a train circling the room near the ceiling and historic memorabilia on the walls. The view from the restaurant looks up to the mountains on the Western end of Leavenworth over a nicely landscaped miniature golf course.
I feel that J. J. Hills offers some of the best steaks in Leavenworth, with a fine selection of other entrée items to choose from as well. If a specific German experience is what you are looking for then I would recommend visiting one of the other restaurants in town but if your party wants a selection of American steak and barbecue dishes with the possibility of a few German specialties and a nice kids menu then this is the place.    [21 Jan 2004 17:02:41]

Roast 'To Die For'
I came back recently and found my favorite Friday Prime rib gone! How dare they! But wait, it was replaced with the most tender and flavorful roast I have ever tasted! The Blue cheese encrusted Striploin was fantastic. They roast it whole and serve it just like prime rib, but it is oooo so tender. They add some serious spice to the meat but the cheese keeps it from building too strong of a flavor. I hope they still offer this dish next time I am in town    [26 Dec 2004 23:20:00]

Nice Place for Dinner
We had dinner here while staying at the Inn. We ordered steak and a burger and various kids' meals. The food was really good, the resaurant was clean and thankfully the train running around the room kept the kids quiet and entertained.    [17 Apr 2005 00:00:56]

We enjoy J.J. Hills a lot
We enjoy J.J. Hills a lot because the food is great and there is something that everyone in the family likes on the menu - a good steak for me, great salad for my wife, ribs for my son, and a burger for my daughter. The service is good, and the wine bar is great if my wife and I just want to enjoy a glass of wine together.    [06 Dec 2005 11:54:22]
