Not A Bad Place At All
If you're looking for a fun place, great food, or kicking drinks this would be your stop! This place definitely broadens the overall cultural spirit of Leavenworth.    [28 Apr 2004 01:10:16]

We miss Los Comperos!!!
Since moving from Leavenworth, we have not found any Mexican cuisine close to what Los Comperos serve. You always had fresh food, great service and a warm welcome whenever we ate there. We enjoyed the extra attention on Mothers Day, and our birthdays and anniversaries.    [15 Sep 2004 14:25:07]

Good mexican food
Because there's not much to choose from in Leavenworth, Los Camperos serves up a good variation from the German menu. Plates are filling, food is good and service is friendly.    [15 May 2005 22:59:07]

Delicious
This is the best Mexican restaurant in the Valley! They have a large variety of vegetarian food and mixed drinks. All the servers are nice and on top of it.    [19 Jul 2005 20:28:58]

Not bad for Leavenworth
Los Camperos

Every restaurant on Leavenworth is hit or miss, none of them are excellent. That being said, Los Camperos is one of the only restaurants that is consistently above average. Even on a bad day their food is pretty good. I go there again and again knowing that even their worst server in a bad mood will take pretty good care of us.

Giving this restaurant such compliments is tough for me, just on principle. I grew up in Southern California with more authentic, mouth watering, flavorful and cheap Mexican food than I knew what to do with. I have also spent a significant number of months traveling all over Mexico. So commending a Mexican restaurant in a Bavarian Village in Washington seems just morally wrong. But you can't argue with flavor. "Los" (as the locals call it) may be a bit more expensive than the tamale lady that used to knock on my door every week, but it is authentic, and tasty.

This place is fairly busy every night, all year round, which is something to be said because most restaurants in town take quite the hit in the winter when tourism slows down. It's strange because I would think that not too many people come to a Bavarian village and think "mmm, let's have Mexican food tonight", but it's still always busy. Maybe busy enough just with the local crowd.

Their menu is pretty standard full service Mexican cuisine, most every entree comes with rice and beans and flour or corn tortillas. To start you always get fresh hot and crispy tortilla chips with two homemade salsa's, one tomato, one cabbage. I gather that if you are used to Mexican food in Washington state, you are probably familiar with the cabbage salsa thing. But coming from California it's unique... and yummy.

My advice: choose from the "specialty" side of the menu rather than the "combinations". They're a bit more expensive, but the quality of ingredients far makes up the difference. Who wants ground beef when you can have carne asada? Speaking of Carne Asada, I order this frequently and it is delicious. Full of flavor and a good size portion of meat. Another good choice is the Burro Acapulco. It's like a seafood burrito, sometimes deep fried, sometimes not, but it comes stuffed with crab meat, scallops huge prawns, onions and peppers, smothered in a yummy creamy sauce. They have a full bar, with lots of harder to find Mexican beers, and stiff margaritas. The meal always finishes with a deep fried cinnamon and sugar dipped tortilla chip covered in whip cream and strawberry sauce, a nice little bite sized sweetness to end a meal in harmony.

Have Yet To Find Better!
Los is the best Mexican restaurant I have eaten at. Every other Mexican place I go to I compare to Los and I always find myself wishing I was back in Leavenworth. This is a great place to go for lunch or for dinner. The flavor, the service, and the portions are fabulous. I always leave with a full stomach and feeling satisfied. Way to go Los!!    [07 Dec 2006 18:11:41]
