Only the view was good!
I was so disappointed with my lunch at the new "Gino's" and will NEVER be back. We came in a day or two after it opened and were the ONLY ones in the restaurant. Sat outside on a gorgeous, hot, sunny day with the water sparkling. Took a while to get service. Salad was a teensy amount of bagged iceberg with two teensy tomato slices. We each ordered T-bone steaks RARE. Menu said they came with french fried onions on top and the first batch did. Steaks were both way overcooked-not even pink. AGAIN - we were the ONLY ones in the restaurant - was the chef too busy to get TWO steaks right? Took half an hour for the next steaks to show up. We were not offered any other food in the meantime to make up for the inconvenience. Steaks came with stir-fried onions this time which I commented on and waiter just shrugged. Wish I had gone ahead and eaten the fried ones, darn it. Steaks were passable - over $21. Came with french fries for that price! We're talking lunch prices. Dessert of blackberry cobbler was very good. We were not offered free dessert, wine or anything off the bill for the overcooked steak and LONG time redoing it. For a brand new restaurant trying to get clientèle, wouldn't you think .....

One other group of three came in before we left. Shouldn't have been too hard to take care of us. Never even got water refilled. Service was terrible, food was mediocre, the day was provided by God so the restaurant can't take any credit for the only good part of the experience.    [05 Sep 2007 22:20:53]

Mostly Good food, but Overpriced
My wife and I had a pretty good meal here. We got a deck table (though the only one without an umbrella, which was odd).

Our appetizer was lousy -- antipasta with cured meats that tasted like they came from a prepackaged deli tray, a flavorless tomato, etc. However, our entrees were both quite good -- I would recommend the pasta. My wife had the halibut, which was expertly cooked as well.

But come on! $25 for a modestly sized slab of halibut? I've been to restaurants that probably have 3 times the rent of this place, with cheaper prices and much better food.

It seems like the "fine dining" places in Port Orchard know that your options are VERY limited, and price accordingly. we need some competition to bring these restaurants back to reality.

They have "special occasion prices," with only a "nice evening out" experience. Service was OK.
I give it 2.5 stars overall (the rating doesn't allow 1/2 stars).    [05 Sep 2007 23:27:01]

Good but not great
We got a gift card for Christmas so tried it tonight.

My wife ordered the fish and chips and I got the Chicken Marsala.

They started us off with bread and a dipping bowl. However, the bowl was so deep that the balsamic sat at the bottom and we only got the olive oil. We ended up spooning it out onto our bread plates.

My wife got a black bean soup as her starter and I got just the dinner salad. The soup was hot and very tasty. However, they failed to take the bay leaf out and nobody likes to bite into one of those. My salad was very nice greens topped with a cucumber slice and a tomato slice.

The Chicken Marsala came with a garlic/cheese pasta and green beans. The pasta was the star of the plate. While the Marsala sauce was tasty, it lacked any "sparkle" or "BAM" that I have found elsewhere. The beans were attractively arranged and cooked tender crisp but were totally tasteless. Overall, a good meal but not worth what they charged.

My wife's halibut chunks were perfect! Thick, lightly breaded in a crunchy "panko" style breading, tender and juicy, they were cooked just right and nestled on a bed of outstanding fries. THIS was truly the star of the evening. Again, however, quite a bit overpriced.

For the two of us with no drinks, appetizers or dessert, our bill was about $45.

Service was very good and it truly seemed like they were trying to pay attention to our needs.

Overall, a very nice evening that cost too much. Will I go back? Probably as a "special occasion" kind of place. But I think they would get a steadier business if they cut back a little on the pricing or improved their menu to match what they charge now.    [04 Jan 2008 05:03:38]

Great food, great restaurant
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Gino's and are glad to have it as an addition to the limited Port Orchard dining options. Our group ordered the Pear Ravioli, Carusso, and Veal Marsala - we all taste tested each other's entrees and everyone liked everything. The salmon bisque that came with my meal was very good and very rich.

To be honest I don't remember specifics about the service which is the way I like it - we never lacked for anything but enjoyed our meal without constant interruption.

Although the restaurant's exterior doesn't have much character aside from the lighthouse topper, the interior decor and marina view go a long way in enhancing the soundside setting - which matters more anyway.

My only grumble is with the pricing. While there are several upper scale items on the menu, all of the prices are upscale. If there was more of a range then we could visit Gino's on more than just a special occasion and company's coming basis.    [15 Jan 2008 15:02:03]

Poor Poor Poor!!
We went to dinner with my husbands Mother last midweek. We came in early, about 4pm. The three of us ordered the sunset dinners; fish and chips, veal parmesan, and salmon. We ordered an appetizer of oysters, which was very good. Our salads came and the caesar salad greens (romaine) was white instead of green with brown edges. The dressing was not good either. The fish and chips were not the best, the veal was just OK, but the portion was small. The salmon, however, was just terrible. It looked terrible, tasted terrible, smelled terrible, and had a bad texture. It was also overdone. The dessert cake was good, however the creme brulee was too liquidy. When asked how our dinners were, we commented on the salmon. The waiter just said sorry. Nothing offered. This is our second attempt to have a good meal at Gino's. There will not be a third time. The dinners are also too pricey there. Apparently the servers, however pleasant, have no recourse for customer recovery.    [16 Apr 2008 17:33:48]
