Best Italian in Renton? As with all small restaurants, the atmosphere is very down to earth. The owner is often there to make sure everything is perfect. A variety of dishes and wine will keep you coming back to sample more of the excellent fare. Of specific note are the calamari rings and the lasagna. [31 Aug 2001 19:16:55]

Much better than average Italian Gene's does some things exceptionally well. The antipasto has roasted peppers, goat cheese, meats, smoked salmon, hazelnuts, wild greens, artichoke hearts, sun dried tomatoes, etc, and is served in a very sizable portion. Soups are homemade daily and always excellent. The calamari, clams, and mussels are also terrific. Entrees vary from eh? to excellent, but desserts are well worth saving some appetite for. I think Gene's is Renton's best Italian and one of the best Italian in the Seattle area. [13 Sep 2001 23:48:46]

Gene's under new ownership Gene's has changed hands, and that is a mixed blessing. Two of Gene's former signature dishes have been transformed. The antipasto misto, which was formerly an obscenely large portion of wonderful things, is now about half the size with less ingredients, but the same price. The calamari, too, has been reduced in size. There are less desserts available as well. That said, entrees have improved in quality. Formerly, Gene's had some good entrees, but some just large portions of things that were not exceptional. [20 Jan 2002 17:44:38]

Gene's Rocks My World I live in Renton, and go to Gene's as frequently as possible. The food from this place should be featured in a classy downtown Seattle restaurant, but some how we are blessed with it in Renton. I would recommend the specials, as they are always different (sometimes a miss, but more often than not a hit). [11 Jul 2003 13:35:54]
