Riding the Rails in Renton
An interesting dining experience while traveling by train along the shores of Lake Washington. Food was very good. Gretchen Matthers, a local restaurateur, operates the food service. The meals are very tasty and try to incorporate local cuisine. Salmon is a staple. The train is rather old and rickety and rocks a lot. Nothing that would keep you from eating, and most likely you will get used to it in the first couple of miles. Staff is well trained and service is excellent especially given the environment they have to work in -- aisles smaller than airplanes. There is a host in each car who keeps the evening lively. Tour and wine tasting at Ste. Michelle winery is enjoyable. Single price for both train ride and meal. Soft drinks included. Alcoholic beverages extra. Food cost is separated separate out at the end of the evening for tipping basis and is comparable to many local restaurants. Less than $30 for the whole meal.
