''Healthy'' food for healthy appetites Taco Del Mar is a favorite lunch hangout. A typical lunch will set you back six or seven bucks, but even a few will get you a good taco or two and a drink. (They also have Tuesday $4.49 combo specials and free pop refills.)
The real standouts here are the "Mission style" burritos, though. In fact, traditionally, "jumbo" has been the smallest size you could order (although I think they're experimenting with "mini-jumbo"). They're two-fisters no matter what size you get. Eat 'em carefully! If you want to at least feel like you're eating healthfully, you can ask for a whole-wheat tortilla, black beans, no meat, etc.
My favorite is the chicken taco salad. It, too, is a monster, piled up with beans, lettuce, chopped tomatoes, grated cheese, and seasoned chicken with generous dollops of guacamole and sour cream. Oh yes, it's in the usual tortilla-shell-you-can-eat.
But a place with a name like "Taco Del Mar"... you would think they put fish in their tacos. And you would be right! Battered cod in either a taco or a burrito. Try it sometime if you're feeling daring. It's not bad.
This particular location is a little smallish but there is usually seating available if you manage to miss the lunch rush. There are four or five tables for two, a few elevated round tables, and a counter for four or five more. The restaurant's stereo usually plays pop music, but late in the day you may find an employee going crazy with the CD player. Marion Court also has a courtyard that is a fair-weather seating option (but may also be a problem during the lunch rush since there are a lot of other restaurants there, too!). Best meal on our vacation! We ate a very late night Dinner at a Taco Del Mar in Dallas as we were on our way back home to Alaska after a 9 day trip to Texas. It was surprisingly the best meal we had on our entire trip. It was also superior service. My whole family was so shocked with the coincidence of driving by one being built here in Anchorage the day after we got back. It has not opened yet but we look forward to their opening. Love the "Subway" style food preparation with ample choices. Plan to walk away full! [13 Aug 2007 03:19:46]
