Fabulous Fare
At some point in your visit to the Longbeach area of Washington, you are likely to want something different from the normal "diner" fare that surrounds you. 42nd Street Cafe is one of two restaurants in the region that will provide it. After a short nod to the heritage of the cafe (pot roast, etc.), the menu gets interesting. Semi-local visitors from the Seattle or Portland areas will find quality Northwest cuisine they can appreciate along with a decent wine list for a restaurant of this size. The food is great, the ambiance is pleasant, and the staff is cordial and relaxed.    [16 Oct 2000 01:32:03]

Wonderful!
After a very disappointing dinner at a highly recommended restaurant, we had breakfast at the 42nd Street Cafe. We are two rather negative people and we couldn't find anything bad to say about the place. Well, I didn't like the sweet room spray smell. But when I left, it stayed with me and I found out it was the new spray gel I had on my hair! So really, everything was great and we would definitely go back.    [25 Aug 2002 14:45:37]

Unique!
I've eaten at a lot of nice "breakfast houses" and a lot of nice restaurants. This place is unique in that it is two different shows under the same roof and same name. Breakfasts are made red with potatoes fried in butter (no frozen pre-packaged hashbrowns, etc., here) and served with loads of housemade marionberry conserve on the table for the toast. Or, you can order housemade biegnets with Cafe du Monde chicory coffee cafe au laits. At dinner items reflecting the comfort of traditional roadhouse diners are available, but so are seafood and pasta dishes that show the chef's interests, travels, talent and experience to extend way beyond the local environs. The seafood stew with local clams, salmon, sturgeon shrimp and calamari was remarkable! Wine and beer only, but a good selection.    [06 Feb 2003 22:53:44]

The best in the Long Beach area
After regular visits to the Long Beach area (always in the off season), we've settled on the 42nd Street Cafe as our choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Good service, pleasant atmosphere, and the best food to be found in the area. Breakfasts are hearty (I like the Hangtown Fry), and the dinner menu changes every day. They make their own preserves and relishes on premises. We got used to walking in the door and announcing, "We're back!"    [18 Oct 2004 21:12:37]

Worth the drive from Seaside
This is one of the better restaurants in the Northwest. The food is always dependable and very good. Service is excellent.    [29 Dec 2006 16:56:48]
