Sushi is excellent here! It is very fresh. The spicy chicken is great. I would not recommend their noodle dishes however. The service however is slow.    [31 Aug 2003 00:30:47]

Excellent Sushi!
First time I had ever had sushi, it was awesome! The service was great, and I felt comfortable and at ease in this quaint and neat little Japanese restaurant. This is Silverdale's hidden treasure!    [22 May 2004 03:41:54]

Rude owner
The food is good, quite close to the Japanese mainland taste; however, the lady owner is rude and not customer-oriented. I am so disappointed at the lack of respect for customers, "rude" should be more appropriate in this case.    [05 May 2005 01:02:50]

This is my all time favorite place to eat. The sushi is so fresh and flavorful. Come early and sit at the bar to watch Sugi prepare the sushi. Reasonably priced for such quality. A few waitresses have some sass on them, but most are very attentive.    [04 Feb 2006 02:24:59]

I admit, I love Hakata's food. I always go for their bento box, sushi, and tempura shrimp. Food is very tasty. I make it a habit to go once a week. But lately, every time I make a visit to Hakata, I get more and more turned off by the minute. Their service is LOUSY! Yes, they do get very busy, especially the lunch hours. Expect to wait. Food takes a while to arrive to the table. Better order an appetizer to start with. But it's no excuse to clear the tables out first before seating new customers. I went this past Friday 3/31/06 and the place was close to full-packed. There was only 1 server covering the tables. We were seated at a table that wasn't cleaned yet. This I didn't mind b/c I knew they were busy and would clean it. So I pushed the dirty plates off to the side so the server could pick the plates up and wipe off the table. I had to tell them 4 times to do this before they actually cleaned up the table. They also left the used tea pot on the table and expected me to drink someone else's teapot. Talk about unsanitary!! I again had to remind my server twice to get me a new tea pot of tea. Then my server started getting an attitude with me b/c I kept calling her over to my table for some service. I noticed her roll her eyes and walk off. It seemed like the servers at Hakata do not take the extra time to be courteous. I find myself getting cut off while I'm talking to the server b/c they walk off in the middle of me saying something to them. I should know because I used to be a waitress for 4 years. I know what service is all about and expect to be treated with at least respectable service. Don't get me wrong, Hakata has great food. But they really NEED to improve on their table service. Here's a tip, HIRE MORE waiters/servers to cover the tables and train them to have some customer service. I'll give Hakata another try to see if they've improved, but even if they have good food, their lack of good service turns me off. Hopefully they'll improve. If not, I think I'll stop going here permanently and go to Origami Sushi instead who has great food and great service!    [03 Apr 2006 02:34:57]

Best Sushi in Kitsap County
Best Sushi around! A fun place to eat. Be friendly to the staff, and they will be friendly to you. I've been to the best Sushi bars in Vegas (and they have some GOOD ones there, believe it or not) and Hakata's sushi bar is comparable, for a fraction of the price. Highly recommended. On Friday and Sat. nights expect to wait but it's worth it. We like to go during the week when it's not as crazy, busy.    [09 Apr 2006 14:39:14]

Best Japanese in Kitsap county and beyond
We eat here at least once a month and have never had a complaint about dirty tables, rude service or anything else and we usually go there on Fri. or Sat. nights!! Maybe noontimes are more hectic? It is the best traditional Japanese food we have had since moving here from Calif.    [15 Jul 2006 19:16:57]

Hakata Is Our Favorite Sushi Place
My husband, daughter and I go here at least once every month. We have never received rude service and the quality of food is incredible. The prices are moderate but well worth it. As long as they treat us well, and the food is good, we will continue to go there.    [15 Sep 2006 12:08:00]

Good Sushi For Sure, Marginal Service Unfortunately
Hakata in Silverdale has really fresh and excellent sushi to be sure, and if you are willing to chill out and wait a bit you will not be disappointed. My wife and I have eaten there many times, so the service has been superseded by the sheer quality of the food. But Sugi and staff need to perhaps be thinking of adding a second full-time sushi chef at some point as the drool factor gets a bit extreme - especially when you are sitting right there at the bar watching the creations be concocted.    [03 Mar 2007 19:53:05]
