I would not recommend their noodle dishes however. The service however is slow. [31 Aug 2003 00:30:47] Excellent Sushi! Rude owner This is my all time favorite place to eat. The sushi is so fresh and flavorful. Come early and sit at the bar to watch Sugi prepare the sushi. Reasonably priced for such quality. A few waitresses have some sass on them, but most are very attentive. [04 Feb 2006 02:24:59] I admit, I love Hakata's food. I always go for their bento box, sushi, and tempura shrimp. Food is very tasty. I make it a habit to go once a week. But lately, every time I make a visit to Hakata, I get more and more turned off by the minute. Their service is LOUSY! Yes, they do get very busy, especially the lunch hours. Expect to wait. Food takes a while to arrive to the table. Better order an appetizer to start with. But it's no excuse to clear the tables out first before seating new customers. I went this past Friday 3/31/06 and the place was close to full-packed. There was only 1 server covering the tables. We were seated at a table that wasn't cleaned yet. This I didn't mind b/c I knew they were busy and would clean it. So I pushed the dirty plates off to the side so the server could pick the plates up and wipe off the table. I had to tell them 4 times to do this before they actually cleaned up the table. They also left the used tea pot on the table and expected me to drink someone else's teapot. Talk about unsanitary!! I again had to remind my server twice to get me a new tea pot of tea. Then my server started getting an attitude with me b/c I kept calling her over to my table for some service. I noticed her roll her eyes and walk off. It seemed like the servers at Hakata do not take the extra time to be courteous. I find myself getting cut off while I'm talking to the server b/c they walk off in the middle of me saying something to them. I should know because I used to be a waitress for 4 years. I know what service is all about and expect to be treated with at least respectable service. Don't get me wrong, Hakata has great food. But they really NEED to improve on their table service. Here's a tip, HIRE MORE waiters/servers to cover the tables and train them to have some customer service. I'll give Hakata another try to see if they've improved, but even if they have good food, their lack of good service turns me off. Hopefully they'll improve. If not, I think I'll stop going here permanently and go to Origami Sushi instead who has great food and great service!
