Breakfast
I have been going to the restaurant since opening day. On that day, I requested some more healthful selections for the breakfast menu. One such request was to include tofu scramble and some less fatty meals. I have been bringing folks there since 2/14/2003. I had wanted to help make the place a hit. I have many fond memories having some great breakfast meals over since 1983.

This morning, I asked once again to include a tofu and other choices that are more healthful. The waitress told me that other customers who did not like the menu simply stopped coming to the restaurant. She said you guys were from Wisconsin and liked cheeses and bacon for breakfast. I am not from Wisconsin. From her comment, I recieved her suggestion that if I did not like the menu, I could stop coming for breakfast. Sadly, after two months of asking, I guess she was right. I am now joining the others that now will not go to the restaurant for breakfast. I had hoped the new restaurant would bring back some of the fine meals I had in the past there. Please accept my suggestions to change the menu to include those of us on Vashon who are vegetarian. There are a lot of us and word is out that Sound Food does not cater to the requests of vegan customers. Island Favorite
An artist hideaway offering extremely fresh delicious food. New wine bar just added. Great atmosphere compensates for rather slow inattentive staff.    [22 May 2003 17:39:02]

Disappointing
Be warned. The service is slow and forgetful, the ambiance is rustic and awkward, and the food is just average. Save yourself time and money and buy their stuff on the ferry.    [09 Mar 2005 18:50:58]

Best restaurant on Vashon
I recently left Vashon after living there for 10 years, and the most recent incarnation of Sound Food (around for the past few years or so) is hands down the best restaurant on Vashon.
Great atmosphere (it is a "real" place- doesn't feel over-concepted to death like some of the newer places on the island), and the food is really great. I've been to some of the best restaurants in Seattle, and Sound Food would be rated very good in comparison.
I don't know why this place isn't completely full on a Saturday night- maybe locals just like the more bustly feeling of eating in Vashon town?    [18 Feb 2006 12:27:39]

hands down best food on vashon
Interesting this place has received mixed reviews. I worked in the restaurant business for years and put the food on par with the best restaurants I've ever been to. The presentation is beautiful, the food is delicious and creatively prepared with local ingredients. The service has been a little slow in the past.
