Fond Du Lac Applebee's
Customers are treated invisible if arriving after 9:30 P.M. The staff were disrespectful, playing loud rap music and swearing at each other. Our waitress brought us our food cold and then never once returned to find out how everything was. My husband ordered regular coffee and when his cup was empty was told all they had was decaf and they were not going to make anymore regular. The service was very poor and I will not be frequenting this restaurant at this location again.    [21 Aug 2002 00:10:42]

Applebee's Needs to Hire Bartenders, Not Kids
Fot the company Christmas party this year we chose Applebees. We had heard very good reviews...but boy, were we in for a suprise.

The bartender could not mix a proper drink. We sent each drink back 2 times until a guy from management mixed them himself. Not just once but three times. We were understanding and nice the first 2 times but by the third we had all had enough.

My ribs were burnt on one side and tasted like they had been under a heat lamp for a while. But other than that the food was good.

Our waitress was friendly and courteous. But after the second time we sent drinks back I think she was afraid to tell the bartender that the drinks were not right and her boss. I was very disappointed at our treatment and at the management's handling of this. If the bartender could not make drinks right he should not have been allowed to continue. This is the only time we get together and it had to be ruined because they did not know how to handle nor did they want to handle it. We will never be going back to that Applebee's and if all Applebee's management is that bad, we will never dine in any Applebee's again.    [14 Dec 2002 22:03:02]

Never, Ever Again
This review is for Applebee's in general. It doesn't matter which one you go to, there always seems to be a problem. Out of 10 visits to Applebee's, at least 6 were unsatisfactory. The most memorable of the visits:

One visit I ordered cheesecake, and it was still frozen. I ate it as it thawed. Finally, I got fed up and complained about getting frozen cheesecake. I wasn't going to sit there for an hour nibbling on it. When I complained, I was told that they would bring me out another half piece since I had already eaten half.

The last visit I asked to be seated in the "non-smoking" section. I was seated in the non-smoking section, right at the corner of where the smoking section begins. They then sat someone in the smoking section at the table next to us. They of course started smoking. What is the point in asking for non-smoking, if they sit you right next to it? The beer was also warm and it was served in a greasy, sticky glass. When the bill came, I gave a lousy tip to indicate the type of service I received. When I received my credit card bill I was double charged. Although it could be on accident, I believe it was on purpose to create a hassle for me, if I caught it in the first place. I will never, ever go there again.    [30 Dec 2002 08:03:34]

A Few Bad Apples...
We have visited the Fond du Lac Applebee's numerous times, and have also dined at Applebee's locations elsewhere, and, overall, we have a favorable impression. Let's face it, these "family chain" restaurants aren't expected to produce gourmet fare, nor expected to present memorable service: just adequate/average/plus - and usually Applebee's delivers.

Decor is pleasant, menu is reasonably diverse, food offerings palatable (don't have any real experience with the bar), and wait staff generally OK with some noted exceptions. If we want a high-value, memorable dining experience, we don't go to Applebee's, but we will continue to visit when we just need a casual meal in a casual atmosphere: we'd miss the place if it closed.    [18 Jan 2004 10:03:42]
