Our Favorite Mexican Food in Laramie The food is great even if the service and ambiance are lacking. [27 Mar 2004 20:21:41]

Much To Be Improved I believe that the use of the word "Mexican" in describing the food as Chelo's is used very loosely. One visit was enough to take them permanently off my dining list. [29 Sep 2004 11:47:21]

Americanized Mexican Food with Decent Food and Wonderful Atmosphere The setting is great. Chelos is run out of a residential house in a small neighborhood on "the poor side of town" in Laramie. The people are very friendly. The prices are very cheap, but you get what you pay for and by this I mean decent, but nothing to write home about. [20 Oct 2005 16:55:50]

Gross---Look up the Definition of This place is awful. I cannot believe that people are still patronizing it. First, this is not Mexican food. I may be somewhat of a Mexican food snob--have lived in Mexico and Southwest--but trust me, running over to the local [fast food Mexican] is better than this.
The food they serve there is at best, no more than microwaved processed cheese and cheap grocery-bought enchilada sauce. At worse, unidentifiable mush. There is nothing authentic at Chelos. The service is also very bad. The cash register is in the back of the store where they have a little cardboard sign that says "we do not take credit cards"...this is something that either needs to be displayed at the front window, or the waitress needs to inform the customer BEFORE they order anything. both of which, obviously, did not happen for me. I ended up having to write a check that they did not cash for three months. I am obviously disgruntled enough to write this review, so please, do me, yourself, and the Laramie community a favor by avoiding this place so that it can go the way of natural selection. I LOVE Chelos! I have never fond any other Mexican restaurant that can even come close to this place. I travel over 300 miles just to dine on their cheese & onion enchiladas! They are like heaven! How do they make the sauce? It is INCREDIBLE! [26 Oct 2007 21:10:50]

Easily Favorite Mexican in the Area I've lived in Laramie for 27 years and moved here originally from Texas and I've eaten a lot of Mexican food since childhood. Chelo's is like going to my best friend's house for dinner. It's not fancy, it's not gourmet, it's home food and we typically eat there three/four times a month, like last night. We always see friends there, as are the owner and the waitresses.
If your idea of Mexican food is based solely on the beer and jalapeƱos, you won't like it. They don't serve beer and the food tends to be on the mild to moderate heat side, but it is flavorful.
The service can be slow at times. The owner has difficulty keeping kitchen staff as her family is growing up and the eleven tables are usually filled.
So....go with friends, meet others there, order the guacamole and chips, and have an enjoyable home style dinner. [28 Mar 2008 17:46:07]

Chelos Is Awesome My favorite place to have lunch or take home dinner. This is not by any means a fancy place. It is run by an extremely nice lady and her family. No ambiance for sure. If you are looking for that, go elsewhere. But if you want some awesome food at a reasonable price, this is the place. I eat there at least 2 times a month. I highly recommend it.
