THE place to eat while in Jackson Hole
Stiegler's is located in the Aspens in Jackson Hole, about 1/2 way between JH Mountain Resort and the town of Jackson. The owner, Peter Stiegler, immigrated from Austria to join his brother, Olympic Champion, Pepi Stiegler, who had started the ski school at JHMR. The restaurant has been open since 1983, serving specialties of authentically prepared veal, pork and wildgame dishes, as well as seafood and duck.

Stiegler's has everything going for it -- we enjoyed every part of our evening there. The food is excellent and presented beautifully, the service is attentive and the ambiance is that of a Tyrolean home with burnished wood floors, a double-sided, river rock fireplace, lace curtains and double-table clothes. If you only go out for one special evening while visiting Jackson, this is the place to go.

Try the Austrian wines which are quite good while watching Chef Peter prepare classic beefsteak tartare for you tableside. For entrees, the classic wiener schnitzel, beef tournedoes served with a Japanese scallop or the duck breast were all enjoyed at our table. Every dish came with several vegetables which were delicious and made the plates lovely, giving us a great variety of tastes and colors. Save room for dessert such as the apfel strudel with vanilla rum sauce or the two chocolate pate.

The restaurant has a very cozy fire-side "ski" bar and we were told that there is a great deck with views of the mountains that is used in the summer. If we ever get back to Jackson, we will definitely dine at Stiegler's again.    [07 Dec 2007 16:23:50]
