Description
This is one of the open air street eateries operating every evening around the Ben Thanh market in District 1. In this case it is the first eatery encountered as you enter the street markets from the eastern side of the Le Loi roundabout.
It has under the stars (clouds) seating as well as under tarp seating. Total about 80 people.
Like all these eateries in the area it has an illustrated menu, showing pictures of dishes you might expect or want to order. Helpful for travellers with little understanding of local dishes.
Prices reasonable.
Service poor.

not bad For those of us who like outdoor dining, this is one of the various places at Ben Thanh market in the evenings that provide such venues.
Most of these places, given their location, cater to tourists, yet many Vietnamese eat here also, particularly later in the evening.
The standout dish for us was vinegar beef soup, a very strong and flavoursome vinegar dominated soup, that must be superb for folks like me with chronic chest pipe congestion. Strong steamy broncheole and tracheole clearing stock, full of flavour and very moreish.
There is also a Hanoi (northern) special dish: oc buoi nhoi thit, big snails which must be land snails, giant, removed from their shells, minced with a cleaver, ginger, lime and minced pork meat added, and restuffed into the shells. Like a little snail and pork rissole inside a snail shell. Fabulous. I ate this dish many times in Hanoi in the 1990s, but this is the first time I have encountered a place in SG that serves it.
Service is the weakness. For an outdoor eatery seating about 200 people, there are about 4 boys carelessly catering to guests' demands and needs. Takes forever to get a beer, to get ice, to get anything you want except the bill, which comes very quickly. Surprise surprise. Not good enough. [09 Jun 2008 09:28:53]
