Description
Mexican restaurant, tastefully decorated. At the sad end of a busy street full of busy eateries. Maybe this is because that part of Pasteur is dominated by a non-happening construction site or something akin - behind big metal fence, and opposite is a big strangely unattended Hindu temple. So not many people; a couple of xe om lounging on their bikes and a few Japanese tourists looking for whatever. Downstairs is a cantina bar with lots of bullfight posters and Mexinaco memorabilia. At island tables the tractorsaddle metal bar stools are a little offputting and not so good for my ageing rump. Upstairs the small tables line one side while lounge settings make up the other. Again, Mexican artwork adorns.

small serves Arriving early: a few beers. Expensive. Best value: Tiger draft 25,000 VND per glass. Heinekens etc all over 30,000.
Seated on the downstairs metal tractorsaddle bar stools in the cantina bar. Salsa and nachos provided - or so I thought, for later we were billed for them.
Upstairs to eat in the restaurant, only us. Later two other couples added to our initial lone custom.
We ate chilli con carne burritos - got 1 each - with sides of guacomale and refried pinto. Quite nice, but the burritos were very small, entree size, one lone thing looking very tiny on its little plate; left both my friend and I needing more to eat. 40,000 VND each plus 15,000 for each side order, made it a not so cheap way to be left hungry.
With our beers the total came to over 300,000 VND, for what we both considered had been our evening's entrees. We could have ordered more but being disappointed in that we repaired to a VNese eatery and filled up on much cheaper eats and beers.
The mini burrito was nice, but not nearly spicey enough for the kind of chilli con carne I'm used to. Gauco was real avocado, not bad given that it's out of season locally. Refried beans are no problem as we all buy them in cans in the Ham Nhgi foodstores just like they probably do. Add some melted cheese no problem.
Service OK, ambience elegant but sadly unpopulated. [08 Oct 2007 09:04:13]
