Description

A Vietnamese restaurant in the centre of the city.

Four tables on the footpath, seating for 40 or so people inside, and another 60 or so upstairs, where 16 or so of those can sit on a lovely outside deck above the footpath.

Prices reasonable.

nice venue, good food
My friends wanted to eat Thai, so I suggested Chao Thai, which is not far from the hotel they were staying in. But we had to eat early as they had to get to the airport to check in. That is, 5pm. Unfortunately, Chao Thai apologised and said they weren't open till 6. So we stood on the footpath wondering what to do. The place next door was VNese nosh, but had four full tables on the footpath which looked inviting. Can we sit outside? No, sorry, all taken. But, they said, you can go upstairs.

We sat on the deck upstairs, overlooking Thai Van Lung, amid large tree greenery. Very nice ambiance. We were glad the footpath tables were occupied. The deck was great.

Five adults, we ate a range of dishes, ranging from green mango nibble, to fried tofu, prawns (shrimp) in tamarind sauce, a plate of alimentary canal and blood sausage, a soup of pork knuckles with skin and vegetables, beef cubes and chips.

It was pretty good food. The hot pork knuckle soup was outstanding, very chilli spicey. The stomach and blood sausage dish was also excellent.

Service OK, but only three staff waiting on many busy tables upstairs made the service a bit slower than it should be.

Price: 600,000 VND for 5 adults drinking 9 beers and soft drinks as well. Heinekens only 13,500 VND each. Overall, the price fairly good really, for such a quality evening meal for 5.    [08 Jan 2008 10:41:16]
